The key objective of this project was to clean a sludge tank containing heavy metal contaminated sludge. The sludge had then to be transported to the designated EPA licenced facility to be neutralised before final removal.
Virotec carried out a single stage treatment, which was performed by Virotec operators.
The proposed treatment involved the addition of ViroLock™ reagent to immobilise/stabilise the
PFAS contaminants. ViroLock™ reagent was provided in bulk bags and mixed with the soil
over a 4 hours period with a loader and soil mixer to facilitate treatment. After treatment, the material was left to stabilise for up to 48 hours before testing and analysis.
The ViroLock™ treatment achieved a reduction of 99.9% of leachable PFAS levels in contaminated soil and significantly below treatment targets required.
