Direct addition of reagents to dam water for treatment is generally carried out by the addition of dry powdered reagents to water inside a mixing vessel creating a <40% w/w slurry solution.
This solution can then be applied by either spraying over the water body surface or fed into a process water discharge pipe or channel. Creating a slurry solution in a mixing vessel prior to application ensures that the reagent particles are broken down to their smallest particle size to obtain optimum performance. The system operates in a closed loop to ensure maximum contact between treatment reagents and the process water.
The operation method is to have the first pump transfer water from the dam into the tank where the reagent is added and mixed into a slurry solution. The second pump discharges/sprays back over the surface the slurried reagent back into the dam at a rate equivalent to the first pump through a nozzle.
